I suggest that you bring your Telstra phone with you and arrange to have roaming added. I also suggest that you turn off features like data downloads and message bank. In Bali, cut incoming calls short and always ring back with a unlocked mobile (HP) with a Mentari SIM installed. You will be given a prefix for cheap calls overseas.
Last year, I paid Rp 1,000 per minute to ring an Australian landline and Rp 400 per SMS using a Mentari SIM.
You probably have an old unlocked GSM mobile in your home. Bring it to Bali.
HP pronounced Har Pay is the Indonesian name for a mobile phone. It comes from the English words - Hand Phone.
