If you are looking for more the 9 carat european style, as per "goldmart" etc the the one you already know is as good (although expensive) as others.
However, although a 30 min taxi ride from "Kuta", Jalan Hassanudin is the place for gold chains, earings, rings and general stuff.
You can also take any "old" gold and negotiate a sale price with the ladies sitting outside the shops, and the money gained can go towards purchases.
Generally, the purity starts at 70% (around 16 carat) and goes up to 85%.
Given the cost of gold, it is probably worth a trip to look at these approx 20 shops all in a row.
Have a look round the back and away from frontages for small manufacturers and repairers too.
