Bali doesn't have 'hostels' much (as in backpacker dormitory style), but there is plenty of cheap (less than USD10 per night) places to stay.

Get a taxi from the airport to Kuta/Legian (15 mins) and get them to drop you at poppies 2. That is a small road (used to be a laneway but has expanded) on which there are lots of cheap places to stay.

I've stayed at Ronta bunglows before and was Rp 80,000 for two with breakfast (coffee & toast). Basic room, bathroom, fan cooled. It is on gang ronta, which runs off Poppies 2.
