Know how you feel. I spent all of Tuesday night trying to book. I found the trick when an error came to press the go back arrow on the top left of your browser. Did you select your seats? Maybe when the final message came "seats taken" they meant your selected seats and NOT that ALL seats had been sold.
Air Asia web site is much improved but still has some annoying aspects. When you are in the payment process it should carry on to the bitter end and not drop out as happened to me about 30 times.
Keep going the savings are at least 30% over the next cheapest airline.
