They have reclaimed land to make it possible to drive on to Serangan/Turtle Island. You turn off the Sanur bypass road into the Mangroves. It has two roads, in and out. We paid 2000rp entry in to the main town area.
Its quite an interesting 'island' to drive around. Lots of work in progress.
We just drove past, so stopped at the turtle conservation project and were welcomed in to look around. Donation as entry. We signed the guest book and walked thru the area where tanks hold injured or sick turtles. The hatchery has eggs incubating under sand, with placards showing dates of expected hatching. I think the eggs have a 45 day 'gestation' period.
I remember Turtle Island being accessed by boat only, around 20 years ago and turtles held in pens along the waters edge.
