Maybe this will help some people. Our company supports a whole Northern village of poor children (yes, poor, living in grass and timber huts, no running water etc)
This is what it costs for children to go to school for example in the North (I cannot speak for the South):
Primary school - years 1-6 - free
School uniforms (they have 5 different ones usually) - 70,000rp per uniform (we buy in bulk orders, so get cheaper)
School socks - 7,000rp per child
School shoes - 70,000rp per child
Books, pens etc 35,000rp per year per child
Junior High - Years 7- 9 - 1 million rupiah for 3 years
Uniforms and books again
Senior High School - 10-12 - 5 million rupiah for 3 years
Uniforms and books again
Other costs, in the North Senior High Schools are not found everywhere so boarding of a child costs us about 200,000rp per month with another family that live near a high school.
Hope this helps anyone that is look at sponsoring children
