As per previous posts things are changing in the Bali airport. My daughter and myself arrived earlier than scheduled on the Virgin flight then was through VOA and immigration, picked up bags with help of porters and out to meet our driver within 15 mins.
My husband who arrived 2 weeks later took at least 1 and half hrs to get through due to the moving of the VOA desk which caused major confusion and arguments at the immigration desks.
Actually met one of the Australians who was working with the airport staff to implement the new fingerprinting who said there were delays to be expected whilst this was all carried out.
ADVICE is for DEPARTURE especially if travelling with young kids make sure you arrive at airport early ie 3 hrs before.. Friends actually recieved a text message in Bahasa from the airport recommending the 3 hr time frame ( no idea how she got this but the rest of us didnt but decided wed better err on the side of caution).
We probably had a window of 20 mins of spare time .Due to delays of flights etc and then the changing of departure gates caused an absolute debacle with numerous flights to leave from the same gates. They were checking hand luggage prior to entering the boarding lounge without addressing the problem that there wasnt anywhere to go as the lounge was already full.
So to save any stress especially whilst all the new procedures are being implemented i suggest to arrive at Bali airport well ahead of time due to delays at the Immigration desk. Judi
