Norwegians. Not the sort of people you'd expect to run into in Bali. Not the sort of people you'd expect to stand up in the middle of a restaurant in Bali and sing either their national anthem or possibly Happy Birthday in Norwegian. It could have been either because I don't speak Norwegian. In fact I can't confirm they were even Norwegian but I've seen lot's of 'stuff' on this internet made by people from Switzerland, Italy, France and the Galapagos Islands and none of them sounded like these young ladies.
On our second or third night in Bali we ate at the Queen of India which is at the front of the Dynasty. There were a bucket load of us maybe 14. The food was great and the service despite the restaurant being full was good.
Funny thing was the waiter spoke great English, with a heavy Australian accent. My youngest daughter even asked during our stay, 'Why do Bali people speak Australian'. You know what, they do. Apparently the drivers and service staff in Nusa Dua, speak pretty good Russian.
Now back to these Norwegians. There were maybe 14 of them. All young, very beautiful women sitting at a table near us. Near the end of the night they all stand up and start singing. They were pretty good. Couldn't understand a word they said and maybe the long hair and soft skin clouded my view a bit but it was entertaining. Then they left...........spewin. The things you see in Bali.
The meal was great and very well priced. I recommend the Queens. Not the guys wearing sequins. The restaurant.
When we arrived at the airport after a great flight from Perth, we walked into the arrivals area, paid our VOA and walked through customs. 8 minutes. VIP VOA, wouldn't bother. Even when we have arrived at the same time as a million other people we just put our heads down and plod along. I've never seen the sense of people who book low cost airlines, pay for meals, pay for baggage and then pay for VIP VOA. Horses for courses.
We did pay for the Dewa Lounge when we left and I reckon it was worth the 100000rph. The wife had a foot massage 50000rph. I used the free internet and the kids got to sit on comfortable lounges. The toilets 6/10. Compared to the ones in the airport 1000/10.
We arrived at 1615hrs and met Raceng outside. We headed back to the hotel and dropped everything. We had to wait three days for our connecting rooms but them's the breaks. As soon as we settled in we headed to The Warung which is a new restaurant at Alila Ulawatu.

One of my friends who I have known since I was a kid is the CEO for Alila Spas. He travels worldwide setting up the new spas and developing the established ones. He recommended the restaurant for my birthday so I wanted to check it out.
We'd never be able to stay at Alila Ulawatu as it's around $1000.00US per night....Might be able to afford Alila Mangis or Alila Ubud as they are pretty reasonably priced. None have TV or internet. They're all built in a way so they work in with the environment. They're all really, really nice.
Alila Ulawatu has a public area where you can eat at their two restaurants or go to the day spa. The Warung is suppose to be traditional food at affordable prices and they are........if you eat from the set menu or don't go crazy when you see the deserts.
2.7 million rupiah later. Three adults and three kids. The food was awesome and the deserts are even better. This was by far the most expensive meal per head that we ate the whole time we were there. But really worth it.
Needless to say we had the set menu for my party at 155000rph per head. I think for 24 people it was only around four million rupiah so you can guess what it's like to order ala carte.
The hotel is built on a cliff and there is a lounge area built at the top around an infinity pool. Fantastic view. I won't go into the night of the party today but one thing I will mention. If you do go to The Warung for dinner, use the toilets in the gym. When you go to the toilets at the restaurant you'll see across from them is the gym. Inside the gym are more toilets. These toilets are sitting on a pond, outside....You walk through the door and the toilet is suspended on a deck on a pond full of water lilies and frogs.
There is a small roof over your head in case of rain or in case your youngest daughter throws rocks at you from the ladies toilets. Yep, she did, only my brother was in the other toilet. The pond now has a sprinkling of white pebbles, from the hand basin, against the very black river stones. The kids thought these toilets were the ants pants. Hell, I thought these toilets were the ants pants. I'm stoked when I get a toilet with a bidet let alone frogs.
Getting to Alila Ulawatu was a bit of an adventure also. Raceng had never been there. He knew round about where the hotel was but after stopping for directions was given a bit of bum drum. We ended up in a limestone quarry and unlike Agung (previous post) we weren't worried he'd slit our throats. We just giggled which made Raceng giggle which made the ride that little bit rougher as Raceng giggled, then we giggled over the boulders and pot holes.
All in all The Warung at Alila Ulawatu, well worth the money just don't take the scenic route.
