I asked my driver about learning Balinese yesterday and he said that he has met quite a few Westerners that speak fairly good Balinese and several that speak it at a very high form with proper inflection. It takes a special dedication to learning the language to master it at that level but it might be enjoyable to learn even the basics and no doubt would enhance the Bali experience and be appreciated by the Balinese. Writing the Sanscrit (sp) would be a whole other challenge.
