I posted a comprehensive report last week on my experiences at Soekarno Hatta Airport Jakarta when arriving from Singapore. Please check archives.
Indonesia is simply coming into line with many other countries world-wide. The new processes are not there to inconvenience arriving visitors - but to enhance security for the safety of everyone.
There were some initial delays in Jakarta when the system was implemented but once staff were familiar with the equipment and procedures there is very little change to previous processing times.
The only concern I have is that ALL Immigration Counters at Ngurah Rai are equipped with the Cameras/Scanners prior to the implementation of the new processing - and more importantly they are ALL MANNED AND OPEN! It will not be the "new systems" which cause extended delays but the ongoing problem at Ngurah Rai of only a small number of available Immigration Counters being open even at peak operational periods.
