I don't want to give the impression that I am having a shot at Aussies in general. I think the vast majority of Aussies are just great and treat others very fairly. I also realise that English in Benidorm etc. etc. and Americans in Mexico have quite a lot to answer for too but again these are the minority. My own friends are mostly Australian and come from all socioeconomic groups and areas but none of them behave like yobs nor patronize the living daylights out of other peoples' choices.
My main point (from which I got a little diverted but hey that's what happens with rants) is, that of late on this site, which has a majority of Aussie posters, there has been a lot of put downs and sweeping generalizations about people from "lower socioeconomic groups". It's disappointing to me that Australian posters would behave like this. My point is that the majority of less well off people (from whatever country) are neither bogans nor yobs and that some from better income backgrounds (from whatever country) behave in a patronising way which is just as bad in my book.
In short. (that's new from me) A loud mouthed Yob may be wearing a Bintang singlet eating a meat pie and drinking cold beer, BUT somebody wearing a Bintang singlet eating a meat pie and drinking cold beer is not necessarily a yob. The vast majority of regular and occasional posters on here do not engage in putdowns and do not give out an aura of superiority but sadly a few do.
PS I don't eat meat pies but defend the right of anyone who wants to, to do so without being put down for it. Now, here is a big confession. I do like my Bintang cold and like to go to places where it is so. Bigger confession and I hope any Bintang purists who haven't dozed off from boredom by this point will sit down to read this. Sometimes I have been known to pour a less than icy Bintang over a glass full of ice....I know, I'm sorry now I've really gone to far....I hope I'm neither a bogan nor a slob...
What do I want? Rights for pie eaters. When do I want it? Now. Bugger global warming, this is serious stuff.
