If it's under 60 days, just pay the $25USD for your 30 day Visa On Arrival and be done with it. Renew for another 30 days for 250,000 rupiah if you need longer than 30 days.
Your alternative - a tourist visa from theIndonesian Embassy/Consulate is a pain in the a**e, what with needing to apply in the morning, come back a week later in the afternoon etc etc. A friend said the Consulate in Melbourne told him that they're not even processing short term visas since the new 30+30 day VOAs are available ...
The queues at the VOA counter, while aggravating, are nothing compared to the time you will spend organising a Consulate-issued visa.
