We usually spend a day in Denpasar - yes there is a Matahari's in Denpasar and we also like Ramayana (Mal Bali, Jl. Diponegoro 103)
Here is some other info on Denpasar shopping I have copied and saved from various sources over the years:
Jl Diponegoro is an interesting street to walk along with a myriad of shoe shops, electrical retailers, hardware, handbags
Tupperware Factory outlet (Jl Tteuku Umar 65A Denpasar Ph 8422161)
The streets around the markets especially Jalan Sulewesi and Gajah Mada are the textile-clearing houses of the region. You could find cloth being sold by the piece, metre and kilogram. Everything from handloomed fabrics to Solonese silk batik. Of particular interest are the "Djaya" coffee co. shop which roast, grind and sell their own coffee powder and "Dewi Mas" which has got an excellent selection of Indonesian fabrics. Both are on Jalan Gajah Mada and their owners speak English. There is large-ish jamu shop on the same road. There is of course a LOT of goldsmiths on the corner of Jalan Hassanudin and Jalan Sulawesi.
Walking Tour Denpasar
Starting at the Badung markets in the centre of Denpasar on Jalan Gajah Mada. Avoid any contact with people who want to "help" you see the markets or offer to bargain for you - they will cost you money for nothing. You will find everything from textiles, clothes, buckets, bottles, vegetables, fresh killed meats, pungent spices etc,etc - 3 storeys of treasure. Then go a little way into Jln Sulawesi which runs N/S beside the markets. This has a fantastic range of shops selling textiles of every kind. The go east along Gajah Mada again passing all kinds of shops - 5 minute walk if not stopping. You will come to an intersection with a large statue in the centre. There will be the mayoral building on your right and the central city park across to your right. Turn left into Jln Veteran and walk north. You will come to the Inna Bali Hotel on your left - this is the first hotel in Bali from the Dutch era and worth a stop for a mixed juice by the pool or on their terrace beside the street. Carry on north past all kinds of shops with some very good electronic and appliance shops muuch cheaper than in tourist areas. On the left is 2 storey art market where many traders get their stock so prices good if you bargain well. Then on right of road is the Bird Market with all sorts of birds and other creatures. Jln Veteran also has one or two very good Chinese style eating places.
Apart from at the initial markets you should be in a "tourist free zone" so can enjoy pretending to be a Denpasar resident.
Have fun!
Cheers
