When we did our first trip around Bali we went from Sanur to Balian Beach (west coast), Balian to Lovina and then thru the mountains back winding down thru to Ubud then Sanur. Trouble is that on motorbikes the road between Seminyak to Balian((to Negara) is very heavy with traffic going to the port at Gilimanuk. Once you get past this point it was an easy drive to Permuteran, and then on to Lovina. Traffic up the east coast is still reasonably heavy, but you have some stretches of good roads. Major stops along the way can be Padang Bai, Candi Dasa and Amed. Try to find the coast road between Amlapura and Amed if you want to see some outstanding coastal landscapes. We are doing the Amed to Lovina coast road this year ourselves, dont know the road yet. On motorbikes, thru from Lovina to Ubud, I would be taking some of the more nth/eastern routes that are a little less travelled. We got a bit lost, but saw some magnificent panoramas. And, it was cold up there! Really cool. Have fun
