While sucking on a strawberry daiquiri at the Rock Bar (superb) on a balmy night recently, a couple from Hamilton Island recommended we try the "Pearl Restaurant" tucked away in a narrow Gang at Legian.

What a revelation - outstanding French food in a stylish - quite private restaurant / lounge, operated by Chef Jeremy Blanchet. Established for just 12 months, the Pearl offers classic French cuisine with some modern twists. Prices are quite reasonable on a value for money basis.

Tender ravioli, stuffed with aubergine; beef tenderloin (Australian) served with onion jam, zucchini gratin, morel sauce - cooked to perfection - generous serve and full of flavor. Followed by seafood risotto - beautifully plated. The grand finale, a tasting plate - each element mouth watering - chocolate mousse, nougat, crème brulee and chocolate fondant.

This place is worth a visit and can hold its head high in the company of the Mozaic and Metis. It deserves support - get there before the French do.
