the short: Its suly resort and spa - sulyresort.com - its about 5-10 min from Ubud they have a shuttle bus that goes every couple of hours.

The long: Only ended up there by accident 5yrs ago but liked it because got a second floor room at the back that had a view from the spa overlooking the rice fields, and you could just walk out the back fence and wander around the rice fields yourself, but only those rooms have a good view the others don't have such a direct view. Loved the marble tiled floors but soon learnt they are very slippery when wet so make sure you wipe any water bottle spills up with the bath mat straight away! Also you can walk to the roof of this tower and get a great view. This time I stayed their they staff where all trainees learning hospitallity so a bit of patients was required but all smiling and happy to have some help with their english. I understand from another guest there our others nearby that are just as good and he thought slightly cheaper.

even longer: found this place last time I was there when duaghter got car sick on way to Ubud and stopped driver stopped in drive way that turned out to be next to a wood carver and because of some other impatient people we where sharing bus with I said leave us we will make our own way to Ubud. Turned out we had stopped right next to wood carver that supplied the person I dealt with in Kuta and they told us about the hotel accross the road (its set back in off the road a way and has a funny maze type entrance). So booked in for a night so duaghter could recover. Went to Ubud next day and looked at the hotel we had booked in town with a room with a view of a brick wall and deicide to stay out at Suly. At lunch time they have day tourist for lunch and traditional dance display that we enjoyed and they had traditional dance class after that a Taiwanese girl took my daughter along to and she enjoyed. The pool is not that fancy but nice spot near the rice field and plenty of lotus ponds with nice flowers. They also have several crafts people on a veranda that will teach you different crafts for a fee. There also seems to be a full day local temple rice field walk you can go on I will have to try next time

The "spa" rooms at front of hotel seem to display western prices so other guest arranged with reception to bring in a local women so I buddy up on that, 100 000 so no kuta bargain price but pleasant in relaxing surrondings

My fellow worker is right I do crap on a lot - but if you ever go there let me know if they took up any of my suggestions:
putting species name tags on the trees and types of lotus and water lillies; a 15min self guided rice paddy walk following flags; and a note on the spa saying its made from onyx and the colour variation is natural and warning the marble floor is slippery when wet!
