Was in Bali for 6 days this/last week. On day 3, had a bit of funny tummy and took Gastrostop. By the next day, still feeling off, but also very worried about what it may turn in to, which may have made it worse!! After an afternoon sleep, woke up feeling nauseous, so went straight down to the clinic on Poppies 1 (opposite Circle K, behind the chemist). A doctor consult, 5 day antibiotics, 10 immodium tablets and some electrolytes cost me Rp360000 ($40). Two hours after taking the first antibiotic, the gurgling subsided. I felt fine thereafter.

The morals of the story:
** When you feel less than flash, get to the dr for antibiotics. If it IS bali belly, they will work very quickly. If it's not, you've taken precautions anyway.

** I've read on here that antibiotics are expensive in Bali. We've had them twice now (last year for ear infection) and it cost $40 both times. Well worth it for keeping my head out of the toilet. I can't even get a 2 minute consult with my local doctor for less than $55, so a consult and meds for $40 seems good value to me!!

** Going TO the clinic yourself will cost less than getting a dr to come to the hotel. There are 2 clinics on Poppies 1. Check where your nearest one is when you find your hotel.
