Only a clown would think that using a mobile phone at a petrol station is dangerous. That is a total myth.
The fact is the petrol station gave 25% less petrol. If that happened to you back home you would be irate. when you live in Bali, you are generally on a different income than back home, and what may seem a small amount to a tourist actually makes a difference to someone on a smaller income living in Bali. You also get jacked off with being ripped off, particularly being targetted because you are a bule. So while the poster's actions may seem extreme to you, I can understand why they did it.
