When we first went to Bali in 2004 I took some jewellery into Mayang to see what it would cost to fix. At this time the jeweller was located upstairs and this area was not another shop like it now is.
The girl took all my pieces off upstairs to "speak with the jeweller". When she came back, after about 5 minutes, she told me the price. My jewellery was nowhere to be seen.
I did a quick calculation and worked out that it was cheaper, though not by much, than what I would pay in Australia so decided not to get anything done. I told the girl "no. too expensive". I asked for my jewellery back. Off she went upstairs and came back empty handed! She went straight over and spoke to the man in the shop. He came over and asked why no? I said "You too expensive" and he asked "how much you pay"? Knowing they didn't barter in this store I was now getting worried wondering what was going on. I said to the man that "I just want my jewellery back. I would not bother with getting it fixed". He spoke to the girl again and she ran upstairs. She came back down again and rushed over to him 'babbling'. He came over to me and again asked "how much you pay". I said "No not paying! I want my jewellery!" His reply was "oh Missy too late it already in pot. How much you pay?"
In the end we managed to get the quoted price halved. The pieces they melted they made into a large nuggett and they fixed all they could. In all a good result really and we laugh about it now but boy at the time..... let me tell you I could have killed them! Maybe that is why the jeweller is now downstairs in the main shop?
Anyway we went to Ms Pak last year and cannot recommend her enough! Great price and quality work :)
Going back to see her next week.
