(two Up two down) by the river but the area is more built up now.
We did have great experiences made all the more vivid by the fact that my father kept detailed daily dairies of his time there so we could retrace his steps to the Church at the leper Colony where they went to Sunday service when in Qui Non, the hospital there with the prominent " Walter Nash Childrens Ward" erected by money left by a NZ prime minister from the 50" etc. Another coincidence was when I was a kid in Lower Hutt my father was Walter Nash's doctor.
We could picture the spot where his friend American Major Peterson, whom he had just farewelled with a 7am beer toast, and his driver were killed in the Bon Son pass on his way to Qui Non airport and home to the States.
Also the place where they held open air clinics in Bon Son while South Viet gun ships kept the VC quiet at the other end of the Bon Son bridge.
It was a healing that the 4 of us needed and will never forget.
