The local "Autan" available in mini marts and Apoteks is very effective.
Depending on what you like, there are several "touristy things" that are worth while.
Just ask others with families around the hotel who have been there for a while for advice and check out the tourist booths.
I am not sure why the paranoia about porters.
Upon arrival, just past the carousels and in clear view, there are many normal trolleys available.
Just grab a couple of these and collect your baggage in the normal way to wheel it through the customs and X ray process, just as you would at home.
Once the porters see that you are organised, they will focus on someone else.
There are also signs clearly posted as to the recommended payment to porters per bag if you go that way.
If you feel like paying more (or have no choice as you don't have change), that's up to you.
Garuda are a good full service airline and I am sure that you will enjoy the service and your trip generally.
