We use Cash Passport as a backup and it's realy easy to use. However, it gives you the 'bank rate' of exchange which is much lower. We used it in January and got a rate of about 7800rp when the street rate was 8300rp. So it was handy, but the rate for cash is much better on the street. Plus you pay the 1% when you add money on. However, you get 2 cards for each account and they are replaceable if lost, whereas cash isn't. I would use Cash Passport over travellers cheques any day, but would use cash as my first preference.
