Just got back from a quick 7 day trip to Bali. I wasn't going to go as I am going in June but things have been a bit hectic for me with work and other things so I thought 'what the heck'.
I normally just turn up but seeing it was school holidays I looked on Wotif for accom.
Booked Mastapa Gardens in Legian. It was $30 on Wotif but on the site they had $25 for single so I booked direct for 4 nights. 10% deposit. It was OK. Room basic, pool nice but no shade and only 3 banana lounges with no umbrellas. Breakfast was American or Indonesian breakfast. It was nice. Staff were friendly. I wouldn't stay there again though.
I was going to move but my girlfriend offered for me to stay at her place. She lives there. Normally she works a lot but she took some time off and we had a great 3 days. We had breakfast at Zanzibar on the beach every morning (very nice- 41.000 for eggs, sausage, bacon, tomato, potatoes, juice, fruit, tea/coffee, toast, jam etc) From there we walked to the beach and stayed there reading, swimming talking until about 2pm. Then we'd go for a swim at the nearby hotel and go shopping. I normally lose weight when I got to Bali but I guess lying around won't do it. Never mind. It was worth it.
I bought a lovely quilt for my bed with matching sheet set (fitted sheet, 2 pillow cases and 2 bolster pillow cases). The quilt was 50% off but I ummed and ahhed and she said I'll give you +20% so that was good. So I got 60% off altogether. Bargain. Worked ouit cheaper than the quilt cover I bought at home and it's a full quilt (not a cover). Then I had to buy 2 bolster pillows. They were 90.000 in Matahari but I got them at a shop in Galeria (it's owned by carefour apparently) for 27,000rp and they were vacuum packed so better for me.
I bought some sun dresses for 30-40,000 and some lovely ones for a bit more. I didn't buy much else. A couple of watches for my hubby's friends.
I ate at Basil Thai in Kuta (nice, and cheap too) Lemongrass Thai in Seminyak. That used to be really cheap but meals were small. It's not cheap now (not expensive though) but meals are much bigger. I think it must be the only non-smoking restaurant in Bali. Last time I went there it was FULL of smoke. That's why I haven't been back for years. Went to Ketumbar which I normally love but prices have gone up a fair bit and the owner/manager is gone. 2 out of three of us had diarrhea.
Flight was delayed 1 ½ hours so I went to Dewa lounge (100.000). It was quite good, free food, drinks, internet. I read my Kindle and got on the internet, ate cakes and drank coffee. Much better than sitting outside for 4 hours.
Looking for a way to extend my week in June (one week is NOT enough).
