I've got "Bali Bags" that have done 4 or 5 trips now and still holding up strong, so they've definitely been good value for us. We use them on the way over now so don't have to buy new ones. They're a padded cotton bag, rather than nylon, but it sounds like you're imagining the style right.

I only used a suitcase to Bali once (as it was given to me as a birthday gift right before my holiday, for that purpose) and it weighed 7kg when empty - which is a third of my luggage allowance. Such a waste! Bali bags weigh basically nothing, so don't take away from your allowance at all really.

You won't need to pack a whole lot to take with you, so a nylon sports bag would work just as well. Then you can buy a 'Bali bag' to bring your shopping home in.
