Kezza, I can help if you are talking about Beach Melati Apartments on Jl Padma Utara.
If you look at the web site you will see a picture of the pool with some double timber doors on one side. These open onto a lane way that is accessed by residents of the apartments and of a couple of private villas in that lane (maybe only 2). Not a thoroughfare for all. There is a gate at the beach end has a padlock on it.
At the end of the first lane (about 50 metres)there is a gate to go through and this joins on to a public lane way used by motor bikes to cut back and forth to the beach road.
It is a very narrow lane and can be a bit squeezy as the motorbikes often have bags of stuff to cart down to the beach or surfboards and there are often two people on the bikes. People walking down that lane on foot ususally have to squeeze against the wall to let the bikes through. Manners tend to kick in and if those on foot are close to the exit point the bike riders will hold back.
It is usually only busy first thing in the morning and late afternoon when people are heading to work and back. The rest of the day you can find it pretty much empty.
It is easy to work out the lane "custom" and is all very friendly with the ususal greetings and thanks.
