Ive been pulled over in bali a couple of times on a scoocter, always with a current international licence. Sometimes (in daylight) the police have checked the licence and been very polite and helpful, other times (at night...) Ive have been 'on-the-spot fined' for traffic offences that didnt even occur. It seems to me that if the officer involved wants some 'coffee money' then theres not much us torists can really do apart from a day trip to denpasar court! To me it was very frustrating at the time feeling so unjustified...but then again the lines to re-new the licence at my local RACQ are just as frustrating and I probably end up even more out of pocket!:)
