I had dengue in April 2008 and have been back to Bali 5 times since.
I take berocca everyday, apparently the vitamin B comes out of your pores when you sweat(and we all know that you do plenty of that while you are in Bali) and the mozzies hate it .Well, it worked for me anyway, haven't been bitten by a mozzie since I started doing this.I was a little apprehensive going back but had no problems at all (went back again in December 2008) ,I also use SOFFELL mosquito repellent which can be purchased at any supermarket or chemist in Bali I purchased mine from the Matahari in Kuta and it only costs about $2 aussie dollars.
During my 2008 holiday the only mozzie bite that I received was when I went on a tour of the Elephant temple. The top half of the temple is Hindu and there is a little section down below that was the remnants of a Buddhist temple a thousand odd years ago. If you are invited to go and see these ancient remnants please don't as the mozzies are particularly viscious as I found out .
My husband says that if you drink enough BINTANG that would solve all your problems with mozzies......hahahahahaha
Anyway Dengue is not something to laugh at when you have actually had it. It took over a week to get a diagnosis in Australia for me.
My first symptoms were that I was going to the toilet and had congeled blood in my stools....errr yuk....thought I had hemerroids and was not worried about it, then I blew up like a balloon and my husband said that he I was eating too much ,which was true,so wasn't too worried about that, then I was covered in a rash , but had just had a body scrub and thought that I had a reaction to the products that they used ,was very tired and just thought that I had overdone it .
When I arrived back home from Bali my symptoms became a lot worse, I had extreme tiredness, a constant headache and pain behind my eyes and really dry mouth and could not quench my thirst , but the worst thing of all was the excruciating pain in my muscles and joints, the only way I alleviate the pain was to put heat packs on.
It took about 3 months before I was 100% but has not deterred me at all from going back
