Our last trip overseas was Thailand staying there for 3 weeks at Graceland in Phuket. Far too long....Phuket to me is a 10 day place. Food was far more expensive. Street food was on a par, but as you say much better. We ended up coming home with one empty suitcase as most of the items could be purchased in Oz for the same price! We found it dear for shopping and limited.
Having said that, our prior trip to Thailand, Bangkok, Hua Hin, Pattaya while still dearer, had a lot more to offer.
So don't expect the same, because it is same same but different.
