Almost simultaneously 4 posters said the same thing about Phuket!
Phuket is ok but is a total rip off compared to mainland Thailand and some other islands.
you are going to see the difference between Bali and Phuket but its a long flight just to do a comparison of two totally different places?
The only thing Phuket and Bali have in common is they are advertised next to each other in travel agent ads in the newspaper!
Many BTF members have been to Phuket and said they much prefer Bali to Thailand which can be a bit annoying to some who have seen a bit more of Thailand!
I am not into the culture thing really and just like going on holidays!
All i know is I have been going to Thailand and Bali since the 80,s and if heading to Thailand i would no longer conceder Phuket as a worthwhile destination along with Koh samui,but I still like Kuta in Bali!
In Bali the main tourist areas are confined to small areas,in Thailand tourist areas are spread over the whole country!
I hope you enjoy Phuket as i am sure you will but conceder it a stepping stone to other parts of Thailand in the future that i am sure you would enjoy much more.
