to the beach it would be about a 5 -10 minute walk. Just walk out the front of the GVC go to the left to the end of JL Padma Utara which is about 50 metres turn right onto JL Padma and walk to the end which is a few hundred metres and you are at the beach. We often walk to Kuta Square then catch a taxi back. It is about a half hour walk. We know a few short cuts through back Gangs which can make it a bit quicker. There are a lot of markets/stall similar to Kuta Markets really close to the GVC though.
