My Daughter broke her arm a few weeks ago. We had to fly from perth to NSW for a wedding. I had also heard that she couldn't fly. After 10 days with the original cast on (the one that was done in the emergency dept) she had to get a new cast fitted. I told them at that stage that she had to fly and they left a small gap running down the cast (in case of swelling inflight). In saying that we went on 3 different planes with 3 different carriers and not once were we questioned or told that she couldn't fly.
I also purchased something called a zerosox, which covers the cast and allows swimming/bathing upto 45 mins at a time. I found it hard to get on and off but my husband could do it. It wasn't cheap ($85 for a half arm cover). I had to ring the stockest up and get them to send it by post.
