You are able to get pre loaded cards from travelex (I think) my son did this prior to going to US, He purchased US dollars but I presume that you would be able to load it with Aussie dollars, this works like a debit card so you can only use what cash you have on it.
The other alternative may be purchase pre loaded Visa Cards which are available at Banks & Post offices - but remember that they are like cash if lost.
I have used my CC in Centro and at rest in Bali and never had any problem, I have also used the ATM's.
