pack it in your suitcase and you stand to lose bigtime if something happens to it. International rules limit airlines liability to lost / damaged checked in baggage to USD20 per kilo - so if it gets wet/damaged/broken or the bag goes missing you may get back about USD30. Sames goes for cameras and ALL valuables. Take them as carry-on. Travel insurance MAY cover you - check with them before you do it!
