The only lap tops I have used have a switch either next to the power switch on the keyboard, or on the front face of the keyboard. You need to have this switched on to start using it, however your lap top may not even have it available.
Once again I suggest you find the nearest teenager who will tell you in about 10seconds flat if you have it on your laptop at all.
