we bought a female pig for our friends parents a few years ago which has turned out to be very profitable for them. They were going to breed her but she kept aborting so they just fattened her up and sold her. From the money they were able to buy 2 more pigs, bricks, sand, cement to go towards their new rooms, a new stove plus put some money aside. Female pigs cost a bit more than males. In 2007 we paid about $60. I think the males were about $40 or $50. Since then they have been able to complete building their rooms and buy a brick mold which his Dad uses to make bricks and sell them which is great as it gives them some income which he did not have before.
