Do some searching online as to whether Kuta or Senggigi would suit you better in Lombok.
The Novotel is miles away from anywhere. Pretty well trapped there, although for a few days it might suit if you just want to hang around the hotel & the very pleasant beach at the front (not to mention the expensive hotel food with ++ on everything). There are several hotels closer to the centre (such as it is) of Kuta where you can walk to restaurants & the few shops.
Many people use Lombok as a jump off point to the Gili Islands which have beautiful beaches, snorkelling, restaurants, hotels etc. If you want to surf then you would prefer Kuta. If not then perhaps Senggigi or one of the Gili Islands might suit you better.
