We hired a driver which was perhaps a mistake :) It cost us 4 million but did include the ferry fees and the corruption at the docks.
The hotel cost us 300,000 for the night, which really was only for 4 hours as we got woken at 3am to get ready to leave. We had a quick breakfast, included in the room tarif, and paid 300,000 for the jeep ride to the top of the mountain next to Bromo.
Remember to take warm clothes as it absolutely freezing.
After sunrise and a squillion photos we were then taken to the caldera (crater) and could hire horses to take us the remaining 1 km. From memory it was about 100,000 per horse, but could have been more. At the end you have a steep set of rough steps to climb - good for the heart.
Of all the times I have been to Indonesia and the number of places I have seen, this is the most memorable.
Hell of a drive from Bali, though a great experience. Enjoy
