After retiring to sleep at 3.40am on Sunday morning, I wasn't exactly in the best mood, (a) I was dead tired (b) Wolves had lost AGAIN and (c) I was getting a tad sick of mozzies deciding I was fair game. Today was to be a good day, I have decided only positive thoughts will enter my head for the next 2 weeks, and I will wake up refreshed and as Mr Happy.
And so it was, I woke up at 7am, sure I had only had 3 hours sleep, but I can have some Nanna naps along the way, and I'm hungry ! I had asked Wayan not to come pick us up at 10am in case the other guys needed a sleep in, and he duly turned up on time
As there are still only 5 of us, (soon to be 11), we fitted easily into the Avanza, and off we went to Jl 66 , and to Tekor Bali. We all had a differing offering, I really enjoyed my Indonesian brekkie, and all for 26,000 rp, a sure fire bargain, and a good spot to start off the day. I was amazed when a gentleman came and pulled up a chair and asked if he could join us, it was Corey whom I had sat next to on the plane the previous evening.Really nice guy, spent more time chatting about his building project and left his mobile number if we ever want to drive up to his place in Ubud and take in the scenery. My companions, replete with full bellies, decided to walk back up Jl 66 and we bartered for cheap sunnies, hats, bangles and wallets. The broken Balinese that I can now converse in comes in handy, and I think I secured some bargains along the way.
After this, we walked the rest of the way to Bintang Supermarket, stocking up on snacks and a few more beers, and I took great pleasure in wowing the check out chicks, not only with my physique and nubile stance, but also with my knowledge of Bahasa numbers and combinations. One girl said I was a bit of a count...I think that's what she said anyway
My stepson and his girlfriend went into Silverberry and immediately the store chick recognised the Tiffany bracelet on my right wrist ( ok, Im a poser) and she became very attentive. This was either due to my adornment of jewellery, or the Calvin Klein Escape that I was wearing today , or perhaps, it was just my aura. Who knows.
After purchasing some "Pandora" beads, we then headed back to Wayan's rendezvous point, and he took us back to our villa. He left us for a while, and I took the opportunity to test the pool and the spa wih my step daughter, and the water was beautifully tepid. While we were bathing, heavy rain passed through, and it was refreshing to feel cold raindrops on my head ,(Sacha Distel eat your heart out), while I was bathing in the pool. However, something was missing, it just isn't the same as the Novotel. So, I asked Mrs Wharfie to pretend to be German, to go get some towels, put on each chair, and then, complete with glum expression.....bugger off .That did the trick, I swung into action, leapt out of the pool with one quick explosion (calm down girls) and proceeded to whip them all off, and return them to the cupboard. God did I feel better for that, and its an almost fengshui-ish (thats the word for the day) experience.
After an hour or so, it was time for a shower and prepare for dinner. I have lost a few kilos over the last few weeks and my pink boardies slinkily fall to my feet, I enjoy a shower, and some nice dry clothes. The humidity soon makes me feel like I need shower number 3 for the day, however that can wait until I am ready for bed.
Wayan comes back, and we check arrival times on my 42 incher (calm down, calm down!!)...Jetstar JQ 81 is due at 8.37pm...shall i ring Baldie and Dennis C to get in touch with rent-a- queue?...nah..they can all take their chance like we did !
By 9.30pm, the other six ( my brother and sister in law + 2 kids , and my mom and dad-in-law) were all here. We celebrated their arrival in time honoured fashion, and Wayan went out and bought us 8 brwon bags full of nasi gorengs, satays and rice. My mother-in-law is a bit crook, and headed off to bed with a sort of asthmatic bronchial disorder.I'm a bit concerned. However, typical Queensland battling farmer, she can stop a Sherman tank at 5 paces
All the kids are tired , but my stepson girlfriend is adventurous and heads off up the road to see the rice padis at night, some cows, a stray dog or two, and our 24/7 security guards
I was right, it was,and had been a good day, I love this place;everyone is so friendly, nothing too much trouble .We were all together in Bali, again NO immigration queues. There is also now 4 more litres of duty free to share, we are indeed going to have a ball. I went to bed well after midnight, Mrs Wharfie was fast asleep, so I crept into the room ( crawling has always been a forte of mine)..and I'm already looking forward to tomorrow.
Time ....time... please slow down to this pace of life... more tomorrow :)
Thank you for reading....Wharfie...xxx
