It takes around 1.5hrs to get there, sometime more depending on the traffic. We set out about 9-9.30, arriving back just on dark usually. Costs 350,000rp for the car and driver for the day, and we usually give him a tip, plus buy him lunch at Kamplung Cafe.

We usually stop at Celuk first to check out the 2 silver shops I mentioned in my original post, then head up to Tegalallang for the rest of the day.

You need at least 3-4 hours minimum there(still not long enough for me), as the street is about 3-4 klms long, with shops on either side! Not many places to go to the toilet, but the shop keepers usually oblige by letting you use their home one - that's if you are okay with the squat ones. You can buy water from several small shops along the way.

Yes, it is all homewares and paintings etc, no dresses or clothing, although there are some jewellery shops there too, usually more the wooden style though.

We get our driver Norman (Nyoman Begeh) Ph:0818559106 to drop us at the top of the street so we can walk DOWNHILL, and then phone him when we want him to come and collect our parcels etc. He's a good, careful driver with an airconditioned vehicle seating up to 6 persons on velour seating(you don't stick to this in the heat unlike the vinyl ones LOL!).

I am sure that he can take you to my Favourite shops, as he's been several times with me in the past couple of years. Do go there in May, as there is no hustle and bustle, and neither do the shopkeepers hassle you. Their first price is usually their best price, although sometimes a little bargaining is in order.

Cheers Adrienne
