Hi Chelley
we stayed at Lakeside Cottages in Toya Bungkah and all the arrangements were booked through Jero, the owner.
It is in a great location,on the edge of the lake, but the rooms are fairly basic, however, it does save you the hour or so trip there at 2ish am. They are cheap, about $30 a night.
They woke us at 3.30 and, after coffee we were driven to the east side of the volcano, which saved a lot of walking, and it was straight into the climb. It was dark all the way up, but no problems as the path is obvious. We reached the summit just before the spectacular sunrise.
You could arange transport the day before and stay one night, do the climb, and back to Sanur next day. The drive back through Rendang, is very scenic. Maybe stop into Klungkung market.
They supply torches, and it was quite cool at the start, but warm on the way down
I took an old pair of basketball boots and an old wincheater, which I gave to the guides afterwards. They liked them, and it saved me bringing them home.
Hope this helps - we loved it
Cheers
Rodger
