The previous few years you could just go there and get accommodation. Less so now, last September was booked out in many places on the Gilis, and on Lombok. What it means is you might not get into the place you want, you might have to pay more for a so-so room, and you may only be able to get one or two nights before having to move to make way for pre-booked guests.
Even the smaller places that don't have internet were booked out by return guests who phoned them.
