When I was in Bali for Nyepi I did a lot of girl stuff in the room - nails, hair treatment etc etc. Watched some DVDs. Ate snacks we'd bought - good to stock up 2 days before. It was a pleasant day relaxing. If you are a pool person then you'll be able to use your hotel's pool. No lights or noise at night. You'll be given candles. OK to watch TV at night as long as your curtains are totally closed. Must stay within the hotel for the 24 hours.
Most hotels have a skeleton staff only as, of course, Balinese want to return to their villages for this very special day of their religious calendar.
Your hotel will tell you where to best see the Ogah Ogah parades. Some organise tours. Driving through the countryside the days before Nyepi is just delightful with Ogah Ogah being made on the roadside.
Hotels do charge a lot for food on Nyepi - can't blame them - so if take this into account if you are on a budget.
