Ubud is a beautiful area with many wonderful hotels, many of which would do the job. Even tho she is not in to shopping, I still wouldn't position her too far out of town. The most beautiful setting in the world will not be beneficial if you are sitting alone, and your mind wanders to unhappy places.If she can walk out the front door and go sit in a cafe, and watch the passing parade, or wander around the markets mesmerized by all the different product, sit opposite the soccer fields and watch the kids happily playing in a meter of grass, these are things that might turn her mind off.
Bali Baik is a wonderful day out, or Janet de Neefes cooking school (lots of laughs and fun), or the walking tour thru the rice paddies.Is she in to yoga? There are some great retreats in Ubud too where you also get the organic food and all types of different massage. Good on you for being a caring sister.
