training and research voluntarily (without pay), that's what our volunteers do. They can't build houses or teach English or anything of that nature. That's why we take on students usually as part of their studies. I'm not sure if playing with the kids can be constituted as work.
The visa states: "This visa status is used by persons coming to study, for research, training programs or to visit family members..."
