I always do this when bringing wood items home. But you also need to make sure you give everything a good shake/tap out. One year I sprayed everything and tied it in the bag - then did it again a few days later for good measure. Everything was killed but the lady still wanted to take them from me in Sydney as when she tapped them out, some dead borers fell out. Nothing living though. In the end she agreed to let me take them, provided I... yep, put them in a bag and sprayed them etc, lol.
