Usually we head down to Jalan Legian (from Bemo Cnr back)around 5pm to see all the colourful ogoh-ogohs fully assembled and lining up in order ready for the parade. Traditionally dressed men and boys preparing to carry the bamboo frames that support the monsters, musicians and beautiful Balinese girls dressed in amazing ceremonal clothing are all there and you can get some amazing photos.
You can walk in amongst the floats to take pics and have a closeup look, and the parade starts around sunset when it is dark and proceeds down to the Art Market/Milo's Corner (near Kuta Square) for their individual performance where they are judged.... then some head down to the beach and are set on fire.
We prefer to see the floats up close and preparing rather than get all overheated and squashed in the huge crowds that line the route. We watch from behind the crowds as we have already seen the intricate details and just soak up the noise and atmosphere.
The ogoh-ogoh parade, followed by Nyepi Day is a unique experience.
Hope you enjoy your first one.
