You could consider taking the cheap Tiger or Jetstar fares across to Perth which I think are about $99 at the moment, then Air Asia it up to Bali?
So at $198 Adelaide - Perth Return, then $350 Bali-Perth Return makes it around $550 PP, a bit better than the virgin direct fares.
