I have actually just recently been given info from centrelink in regard to travel overseas for my sister.
Centrelink will pay pension benefits for up to 25 weeks for overseas travel.
As mentioned already, you must notify them prior to your trip & upon return & as also previously mentioned, immigration is linked to Centrelink and flag your name when your passport is presented for entry/exit into Australia, so they are aware of your movements anyway.
