Our first Bali experience:
On arrival.. the hot, humid heat... the all very new smell... the exhilaration of our first O.S. trip... the excitement of what's ahead.
Our trip to Kintamani via Ubud in an old white, beat-up van with no seatbelts & shared with various other travellers.... travelling at break-neck speed... the swaying palms, the impending storm gathering over breathtakingly scenic rice paddies. The overwhelming sellers...
Kuta beach at sunset... the golden hues of a hot summer day forgotten, sinking into the sea.... young beach soccer players silhouetted against the darkened sky...
Buying cassette tapes by the dozen... so, so cheap. Hearing "Working Class Man" blaring from the video shops repetitively (or was that the next trip?)
Drinking Arak Attacks by night & feeling seedy by day.
Bargaining hard with the sellers & enjoying my new purchases.
Riding pillion with the wind in my hair to Benoa, a deserted & breathtakingly beautiful beach.
Living simply & loving it.
Not realising this was the beginning of a 'love affair'.
Returning time & time again.
Wanting, & affording, the creature comforts as I got older.
Continually re-inventing & re-introducing my love affair with my family & friends.
