We stayed at Tuban last June/July and loved the accmodation place where we stayed. Previously we have stayed at the Legian Beach hotel and the Mandira; the Mandira being our first preference. Overall we found the beach alot better at Legian, the abundance of markets and restaurants definielty are a plus at Legian but if you prefer a quieter place away from the hustle of Kuta, then maybe Tuban is your answer.
Yes, you can always catch a blue cab, but be prepared for traffic hold ups in peak and busy times. They also have a path that goes along the beachfont which we used a bit, but at times in the heat you don't always feel like making the trek in. Enjoy whichever.
